Coast to Cactus in Southern California @ San Diego Natural History Museum
Nov 14 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

The southern California you’ve never seen. Now see it all in one place.

Not only is it one of the nicest places to live, it’s one of the most interesting places in the world due to its amazing diversity of plant and animal life. The coastline, mountains, deserts, and more—it’s all here, ready to be explored. See it in Coast to Cactus in Southern California, a brand-new, permanent exhibition on view at the San Diego Natural History Museum.

San Diego is known for its incredibly diverse terrain, ranging from the beaches and chaparral near the coast, to the mountains and the desert farther afield. This terrain is what makes the region one of only 35 biodiversity hotspots in the world, meaning areas that have the highest concentration of different species of any geographic area of similar size. Using specimens from the Museum’s scientific collections alongside immersive environments (hands-on exhibits, live animals, and innovative media), Coast to Cactus illustrates that richness by taking visitors on a journey through these habitats and the plants and animals that live in them.

In keeping with the Museum’s binational focus, all information within Coast to Cactus is presented in both English and Spanish.

The exhibition is located in the Dennis and Carol Wilson Hall of Biodiversity on Level 2 of the Museum adjacent to its sister exhibition, Fossil Mysteries, which gives visitors a look into prehistoric past of the region. Together, they tell the story of southern California from the prehistoric era to present day.

The Selecter @ Casbah
Nov 14 @ 9:30 pm – 9:30 pm

with Mochilero Allstars The Selecter teamed up with The English BeatFeat. Ranking Rogerlast yearin the UK & Europe to give fans a rare treat, hitting the road together for a number ofco-headline shows. Originally a six-date tour, due to phenomenal demand they played nearly 40 dates together, including sold out showsat Londons iconic Roundhouse and Amsterdams Melkweg, selling nearly 40,000 tickets. Life-long friends, they are two of the main bands to come out of 2 Tone a crucial musical and cultural movement which is still as relevant today as it was over 30 years ago. The hugely successful pairing is now continuing into 2018 and heading worldwide with tours of Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and Germany already complete anda co-headline tour announced in the USA in October and November 2018.Both bands will playfull sets of their many hits and more each night with a joint encore. The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger released their spectacular fourth album Bounce (the first in over 30 years) in September 2016. The album shows off every gleaming aspect of one of the most musically diverse bands to come out of the multiracial, multicultural explosion that remade British pop from 1979 onwards.Joining Ranking Roger (also a founder member of General Public) in the revitalised band is his son Ranking Junior AKA Matthew Murphy a powerhouse MC who brings to the band an update on the toasting that made Ranking Roger such a pivotal part of the original Beat. The same energy that drove the hit singles of the 80s: Mirror in the Bathroom, Too Nice To Talk To, Can’t Get Used To Losing You and Hands off She’s Mine, is here again on Bounce and the band are currently working on a brand new studio album. The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Blackand co-fronted by original member Arthur Gaps Hendrickson. The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the 2 Tone era is still there, except the pair (Pauline & Gaps) are more driven than ever. Their confidence is sky-high and theyre also writing the best songs of their career, which is saying something given the enduring popularity of hits like Three Minute Hero, Missing Words, Too Much Pressureand On My Radio. They released new studio album Daylight in October 2017 with their most urgent, politically engaged and purely uplifting music since the days of Too Much Pressure and Celebrate The Bullet. The Selectertoured in the USA in Summer 2017 with Rancid and Dropkick Murphys and Pauline Black recently toured in Latin America as special guest with Damon Albarns Gorillaz. Both The English Beat Feat. Ranking Roger and The Selecter are releasing Live Albums in June 2018 from their sold-show at Londons Roundhouse. They are releasing their concerts on CD/DVD, Heavyweight Double Vinyl and Limited Edition Coloured Splatter Vinyl both with a Bonus DVD.
