Prepared Childbirth Classes: Two-Part Series, August 22 and August 29, 2018 (2 Wednesdays) @ Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital’s Prepared Childbirth Classes will help prepare expectant families for the arrival of a new baby. Our classes are appropriate whether you choose natural or medical options for coping with labor discomfort. Specially trained registered nurses provide expert preparation and support for the challenges of pregnancy and labor.  We offer different class times and lengths for your convenience.  The Two-Part series is held on two weeknights. Course Content: Breathing and comfort techniques Stages of labor and delivery Coaching role for labor companions Medical options for labor and birth, including Cesarean Preparing for postpartum with an emphasis on care of the new mom and baby Birth Center Tour instructions: Five-Part Series — Includes a Birth Center Tour Two-Part Series — Please register for a Birth Center Tour One-Day Intensive — Please register for a Birth Center Tour The Art of Parenting and Breastfeeding Class instructions: You may also attend a Breastfeeding and Art of Parenting class but no need to register separately for these classes Your Prepared Childbirth Class registration email receipt lists the dates for the Breastfeeding and Art of Parenting classes The Breastfeeding and Art of Parenting classes are usually on Mondays You just show up! Nature Cruise (3pm) @ Cachuma Lake Recreation Area

Let our Park Naturalists guide you on a 2-hour Lake Cruise aboard the Osprey. A 30-passenger pontoon boat for easy wildlife viewing and personal comfort, the Osprey explores the Lake as Naturalists follow nature’s serendipity to reveal the area’s natural and cultural riches. In all seasons, Cachuma Lake is a thriving habitat for a great variety of wildlife, birds, fish, trees, and plants. Our winter season often brings out resident and migratory Bald Eagles and waterfowl from November through February. In spring and summer, wildflowers spangle the hills, resident birds can be seen displaying and building nests, and fawns appear with does. The tour is appropriate for all people ages 5 and up. Our boat can comfortably accommodate visitors who use walking aids, and we have a walk-on ramp (please let us know in advance so we may assist you). Cruise Fees: Adults $15 Kids $10 (ages 5-12 year old; please no children under 5) Cruise Reservations: RESERVATIONS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED in person at the main gate, or call: (805) 568-2460 Weekdays 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (805) 686-5055 After 3:00 PM on Fridays and Weekends Please arrive at Cachuma Lake Recreation Area 1/2 hour before departure time to allow for park entrance, parking and visiting the restroom. Saturdays year-round: 10 to 11:30 am – Meet at the Nature Center 10:00 am – Free with Park Entry Fee Join a Cachuma Lake Park Naturalist or Park Volunteer for an easy-paced 1/2-mile walk exploring the oak woodland and lakeside ecology on the Oak Canyon Trail. Bring water, hats, and please, no pets. Groups bringing over 10 participants are asked to call in advance (805) 688-4515. Limited to 20 participants. First come, first served. Science on Site: The Art of Bug Pinning @ Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History

Meet the Museum’s Curator of Entomology, Dr. Matthew Gimmel, and entomologist Sandy Russell, as they demonstrate how dead insects are pinned and prepared for collections.

Select visitors (age 10+) can also participate by signing up to pin dead beetle or butterfly specimens of their own. Participants get to take home their pinned specimens!

All are welcome to observe. Space for pinning activity is limited, sign-up occurs on the day of the program outside of Broder Hall and is available on a first-come, first served basis.
