“The untouched American west”: Grofé’s “Grand Canyon Suite” – Sammamish Symphony – Bellevue
Two important and lesser-known works by great composers begin our season finale: Beethoven’s overture to King Stephen, and the fourth of Camille Saint-Saëns’ five piano concertos with brilliant local soloist Jessica Choe. We conclude the season with one of the most popular of all American concert works: Ferde Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite, as much a testament to orchestral wizardry and virtuosity as it is a paean to one of Nature’s wonders.
