An innovative five day workshop/training, The Recovery Coach Academy, will be offered this October by RAW Recovery and Northbound Treatment Services and will be facilitated Dave Alexander and Elizabeth Steele. Anyone interested in promoting recovery by removing barriers and obstacles to recovery and serving as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking or already in recovery. The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© is a 5-day intensive training academy focusing on providing individuals with the skills need to guide, mentor and support anyone who would like to enter into or sustain long-term recovery from an addiction to alcohol or other drugs. Provided in a retreat like environment, the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© prepares participants by helping them to actively listen, ask really good questions, and discover and manage their own stuff. CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© participants will:• Describe Recovery Coach role and functions• List the components, core values and guiding principles of recovery• Build skills to enhance relationships• Explore many dimensions of recovery of recovery and recovery coaching• Discover attitudes about self disclosure and sharing your story• Understand the stages of recovery• Describe the stages of change and their applications• Increase their awareness of culture, power and privilege• Address ethical and boundaries issues• Experience recovery wellness planning• Practice newly acquired skills Each day of the Recovery Coach Academy© is set up so that participants gain the necessary skills and knowledge to be a Recovery Coach by using the principles behind adult learning theory which states:•Adults are internally motivated and self-directed•Adults bring life experiences and knowledge to learning experiences•Adults are goal oriented•Adults are relevancy oriented•Adults are practical•Adult learners like to be respected By designing the academy as more of a retreat or learning community, each participant comes away with not only the necessary skills, but are fully empowered and motivated.The lessons taught in the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© expand way beyond the role of recovery coach, as many graduates leave feeling a greater sense of self, solidifying their position as allies in the every changing recovery community. She has a true passion for working with individuals suffering from addiction, and she went on to get her Master’s in Addiction Counseling at the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies. While at Hazelden, Elizabeth worked on female-specific units at the facility’s adult and adolescent young adult treatment centers. She also worked with the male population at Hazelden’s residential extended care program. Elizabeth joined the Northbound team in January of 2013 and leads an experienced, skilled team of addiction professionals as Program Manager of the Intensive Outpatient Program. Dave Alexander – Presenter Founder of RAW Recovery and Wellness RAW, Recovery And Wellness’s founder, Dave Alexander leads a residential transitional living community of fifty young men reclaiming their lives from addiction in Costa Mesa. Through a blend of recovery coaching concepts from CCAR’s Recovery Coach Academy and Twelve Step principles, Dave’s mission is to demonstrate to his residents and the community at large that recovery is not only possible but worth the struggle. Understanding the importance of service, Dave heads monthly workshops on recovery principles for both recovering addicts and their families, for fun and for free. Dave, also, wholeheartedly believes in the ability of education to transform lives. After graduating from University of California, Los Angeles in 1996 with a bachelor’s of science in Psychology, Dave created Future Youth Inc. a company that focused on innovative strategies for college admission. In 2008, Dave turned his attention to helping recovering addicts achieve the same goals and began working as the Director of the College Program at Northbound, where he managed an educational program for those in treatment. Recognizing the need for safe sober housing, led to the founding of RAW, Recovery And Wellness in 2013, which has had outstanding success in guiding recovering young men into not only sobriety, but a life worth living. ——————————————————————— Continuing Education: 30 hours of CEUs available CEU Event Details This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and addiction professionals who seek knowledge about becoming a recovery coach. It is appropriate for an introductory level of participants’ knowledge.
