Issaquah, Wash. (Jan. 15, 2020): Pulitzer Prize-winning author Colson Whitehead, a writer and university lecturer acclaimed for his nine books that explore the African American experience, will keynote the 27th annual King County Library System (KCLS) Foundation Literary Lions Gala on Saturday March 7, 2020. The event will raise money to support the future of libraries at the library system's 50 libraries.

This enduringly popular event will feature 20 outstanding authors, fabulous food and wine, and opportunities to purchase books and tickets to several exclusive Author Salons. Guests who purchase the popular Salons will have the future opportunity to mingle with guest authors, at a later date, in an intimate setting.

Whitehead won the Pulitzer, National Book Award and Carnegie Medal for Fiction for his No. 1 New York Times Bestseller The Underground Railroad and this year released Nickel Boys to rave reviews. Melinda Gates will introduce Whitehead.

The Literary Lions Gala, the premier fundraising event for the King County Library System (KCLS) Foundation, will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue. Last year, more than $450,000 was raised at the gala, which provides funding for programs and services that educate and inform children, youth and adults, enhancing the lives of residents throughout King County. This year's gala is sponsored in part by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and SHAG.

Tickets are $250 each; VIP tickets that include a pre-gala reception with the authors are $350 each. To purchase tickets call 425-369-3225 or go to www.kclsfoundation.org/literarylionsgala.
