St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) will present Universe of Dots and Inspiring Lines, an installation of dots by Sophie’s Gallery’s artist Rachel Guerrero along with prints from the collection of printmaker Loretta Kramer. The show will be at Sophie’s Kensington Gallery (4186 Adams Ave, San Diego, CA 92116) and will run from March 7 – 28, 2020. There will be a public reception on March 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00.

St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center serves more than 400 adults with developmental disabilities through nationally recognized, innovative programs. Its mission is to educate and empower individuals with developmental disabilities to realize their full potential. Developmental disabilities include autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other cognitive disorders for which there are no cures.

Sophie’s Gallery, the off-campus art program of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, features artwork of many talented individuals with developmental disabilities. Inside the gallery is a collection of artworks including jewelry, paintings, fused glass, mosaics, textiles, cards, and etc. The gallery, which is also a gift shop, allows SMSC students to showcase their work, earn a paycheck from sales of their artwork, while also raising funds for the art programs.

6th Annual Women’s Symposium @ Academy of Our Lady of Peace
Mar 13 @ 8:30 am – 2:30 pm

The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP), the oldest all-girls’ high school in San Diego, will host its Sixth Annual Women’s Symposium on Friday, March 13, 2020. The event will be held on its historic campus in Normal Heights from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Haben Girma, the first deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School and White House Champion of Change, will serve as the keynote speaker.

Modeled after speaker panels at leading universities, OLP’s Women’s Symposium brings together top women leaders from various industries to share their insights and pathways to success with OLP students and the community. Through dialogue and modeling, these female leaders empower young women to stand up for themselves and fearlessly chase their dreams. OLP is committed to serving as a hub for thought leadership and welcomes the larger community to join for a day of learning.

Funds raised from this event will support the OLP Alumnae Scholarship Endowment Fund for students who embody the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, show academic potential, and demonstrate financial need.

This event is open to the public. It is a great event for all ages; from those in middle school to retirement. Tickets to OLP’s Sixth Annual Women’s Symposium are $50 for general admission and $15 for alumnae, college students, young professionals, and OLP parents. To purchase tickets or learn more, please visit https://www.aolp.org/olpws/

Sponsorship opportunities are available and range from $1,000 to $15,000 and can be customized. For sponsorship opportunities, email Kaila Weedman ‘08 at kweedman@aolp.org.
