Volunteer divers and snorkelers needed to help clean our white seabass pens! When:Saturday, June 1, 2013Time: 8:00 am – 10:00 amAre you a certified diver or snorkeler wanting to try something new, but don’t mind getting dirty? As time goes on, our white seabass pens become COVERED with a variety of marine life that has found the perfect place to settle and take up residency. Problem is, this blocks out the very vital water and oxygen circulation necessary for the health of our little fish! In order to keep our babies strong and ready for release into the wild, we need to perform regular maintenance on their containment nets…and that’s where you come in! Just one morning a month, ‘Pen Pals’ scrub our mesh nets in shallow waters, so the fish can breathe easy once again.Email us at whiteseabass@sdof.org to get involved. RSVP is required to attend!
It’s time to welcome our 40,000 new baby white seabass! They are finally moving from their nursery in Carlsbad to their new homes in San Diego Bay. We need your help to unload them from the truck and put them into our floating pens. There will be 2 shifts each day:10:15AM – 12:00PM2:15PM – 4:00PMWe will need 30 volunteers for each shift. This will be a fun and exciting event, and space is limited so please RSVP by sending an email to whiteseabass@sdof.org.A little about the program:Our volunteers will take care of the white seabass until they grow to about 12 inches long. At that point, they will be released into the wild to replenish wild populations and enhance ocean ecosystems. Each fish is tagged with a chip so that when they are caught, we can record data on white seabass ecology.
