Bird LA Day!
May 7 @ 8:00 am – 7:00 pm
Bird LA Day!

Angelenos on May 7 will celebrate the birds of Southern California and LA’s Biodiversity at the second annual Bird LA Day, a series of decentralized bird- and nature-themed events throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Bird LA Day shines the spotlight on nature, and reminds the world that Los Angeles is a lot more than just film and fashion and celebrities.

From Debs Park in downtown LA to The G2 Gallery in Venice; from the Natural History Museum to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and many other locations – there will be more than 50 events for every level of birder, from the uninitiated to the expert.

“It’s easy to forget that Los Angeles has deserts, mountains, beaches, rolling hills – an amazing diversity of habitats. And all this creates one of the most fascinating collections of birds you’ll ever see,” said Brigid McCormack, executive director of Audubon California. “Bird LA Day opens people’s eyes to the natural world around them.”

“We’ve designed the day so that there’s something for everyone – from bird walks and talks to photography classes and bird bars with bird-themed drinks,” said Susan Gottlieb, Audubon California Board Member and one of the key organizers. “The good news is that nearly all the activities are free.”

Highlights include birding tours through the gardens of the Museum of Natural History of Los Angeles County, explorations of the Ballona Wetlands, excursions in the Santa Monica Mountains, yoga classes to bird sounds at the G2 Gallery in Venice, urban birding in South Los Angeles, and getting to know the volunteers at International Bird Rescue in San Pedro.

Angelenos are encouraged to share their sightings and photos on the Bird LA Facebook page, or on Twitter using the hashtag: #BirdLADay.

Moths At Large @ The G2 Gallery | Los Angeles | California | United States

On June 28, The G2 Gallery will open Moths at LArge, an exhibit from Canadian moth expert and photographer Jim des Rivières that was originally shown at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Moths at LArge will feature large-format photography of various species of moth from des Rivières, mostly from the Ottawa region of Canada, where des Rivières lives and works as a software engineer by day, moth collector by night. He traveled to Los Angeles to specifically photograph two local species for this show: the Ceanothus Silkmoth (Hyalophora euryalus) and the White-Lined Sphynx (Hyles lineata), which he captured in the Certified Wildlife Habitat backyard of G2 owners Dan and Susan Gottlieb.

The process des Rivières uses to collect, identify, photography and print each moth is available on his website: http://ottawa.moths.ca/technical.html

The opening reception for Moths at LArge, along with 100 Years of National Parks: The Midwest, will be held on July 9 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door and includes wine, hors d’oeuvres and complimentary valet in front of the gallery. All proceeds from admissions will be donated to Earthjustice. RSVP to rsvp@theg2gallery.com.

4th Annual G2 Green Earth Film Festival @ G2 Gallery | Los Angeles | California | United States

The 4th Annual G2 Green Earth Film Festival is an environmental film fest held at G2 Gallery in Venice August 5-7, 2016. It’s a weekend of screenings, fascinating guest speakers, live music, cocktail hours, after-parties and more – all completely free to the public. Our belief is that environmentalism is for everyone, so we’re tearing down the barriers of “too dry” or “too difficult” or “too boring” or “too privileged” or “too expensive” with this weekend of learning, fun and igniting activism.

HITLER’S TASTERS @ Electric Lodge
Mar 13 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm

HITLER’s TASTERS is a dark comedy about four young German women who had the “honor” of being chosen as Adolf Hitlers food tasters. Based on true events in history, with shades of 2020, Hitler;s Tasters explores the way these girls navigate sexuality and friendship, patriotism and poison during the Third Reich.
Winner of the 2017 Susan Glaspell award, this production from New Light Theater Project was named ;Best of the Fringe; by The Stage, with a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019. An anachronistic retelling of a historical footnote, Hitlers Tasters is about what girls discuss, even as they wait to see if they will survive another meal. A coming of age story, it also explores complacency, acquiescence and the banality of evil.
Featuring:
Hallie Griffin (Liesel), MaryKathryn Kopp (Hilda), Kaitlin Paige Longoria (Anna), Hannah Mae Sturges (Margot) Jessica Dahlgren (Understudy)
