Normal Heights, which today has the demographic distinction of being a near replica of the county’s racial and ethnic composition. Its population and the county’s are both almost half white and about a third Hispanic, along with smaller percentages of Asians, blacks and people of other races or mixed heritage.

Normal Heights’ history mirrors that of the greater region: Both shifted from being largely white to containing every color of the human rainbow, with no majority ethnic group.
