All the players are members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and agree that “we enjoy playing in the orchestra tremendously. However, we like to expand this joy by playing together in a small ensemble as well. Not only is the repertoire of a small ensemble different, we also feel that chamber music is more personal and intimate. It is refreshing to get to know our colleagues in the orchestra better while working together in Camerata RCO….The energy that results from these concerts is what inspires us most.” Audiences are also inspired by “sophisticated, expressive music making, with a precision as snug as the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.” (Washington Post)… Program include: Zemlinsky Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano in D minor, Op. 3; Brahms Trio for Horn, Violin, and Piano in E-flat Major, Op. 40; Dohnanyi Sextet for Clarinet, Horn, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Piano in C Major, Op. 37. Figures of Speech was born of a prompt from artistic director Nancy Evans Doede designed to challenge company members to create new material that would mix text and dance without speaking out loud. Each member was asked to choose a line from a book or play, or a stanza from a poem and use it as an inspiration for any or all aspects of their work. This year, in honor of the 1920 ratification of the nineteenth amendment, all literary inspiration will be from works by women. Q & A to immediately follow. To get tickets, go to the above link.
