Man stabbed in middle of Hawthorne Blvd in Redondo Beach
An 18-year-old Torrance man was arrested on attempted murder Thursday after allegedly stabbing a man in broad daylight in the middle of bustling Hawthorne Boulevard in Redondo Beach.
The victim, whose age and name were not released, suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso and remained in critical condition at a local hospital. Police say the attack occurred when he apparently confronted someone who had possibly stolen a cellphone.
The alleged assailant, Kenneth James Tofaeono, was taken into custody and jailed on $500,000 bail.
Redondo Beach and Torrance police were still piecing together details of the crime, which occurred about 11:40 a.m. at the corner of Hawthorne Boulevard and 177th Street near the South Bay Galleria.
