On strict beach factors alone, Manhattan Beach is already arguably the best in the Lower Forty-eight: It’s wide and relaxed, with sand the color of really nice sand. But where it blows away every other spit of coastal dirt is the restaurant scene just blocks from the water. At most beaches, you’re stuck with the soggy sandwiches and crumbled bag of chips you packed; in Manhattan Beach, you’ve got fish tacos and slop-plate Mexican (check out El Sombrero), all complemented by chef David LeFevre’s two new foodie magnets, M.B. Post and Fishing with Dynamite. We’ll raise our forks to that (and then wait thirty minutes before going back into the water).—Daniel Riley
