Beach Cities Read: Captain Charles Moore Author Visit
During the month of April, the Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Hermosa Beach Public Libraries invite the community to participate in a Beach Cities Read with a Book-to-Action series featuring the title Plastic Ocean: How a Sea Captain’s Chance Discovery Launched a Determined Quest to Save the Oceans by Captain Charles Moore. Captain Moore is the founder of Algalita, an organization dedicated to the protection and improvement of the marine environment and its watersheds through research and education on the impacts of plastic pollution. In 1997, while sailing from Hawaii to California, Charles Moore skimmed his ship through a plastic soup later dubbed the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. In Plastic Ocean, Moore exposes the threat posed by plastic to marine species and their fragile habitats as well as to human health and asks us to do a fundamental rethinking of our relationship to this ubiquitous material.Find more events in the month-long Beach Cities Read on this website!
