8 week class dates: April 4, 11,18,25, May 2,9,16,23,      Spaces limited; for students 5-7th grade THE LOVE4LIFE PROGRAM Delivers easy to use interactive mindful tools to help students think, act and live with compassionate and confident choices for increased success in their life outlook, happiness, school, career, personal friendships and other relationships. SELF-AWARENESS: Recognizing one’s emotions, thoughts, and strengths leading to confidence and optimism; be mindful SOCIAL-AWARENESS: Ability to empathize, be open-minded and recognize how/when to ask for help from others SELF-MANAGEMENT: Ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts and behaviors with stress, anger, motivation and achieving personal and academic goals RELATIONSHIP SKILLS: Ability to create healthy happy relationships through communication, listening, cooperation, respect and conflict resolution RESPONSIBLE DECISION MAKING: Ability to make healthy respectful and ethical choices for self/ others What is SEL? SEL is short for social and emotional learning. Per CASEL definition, its “the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.” Today, academic performance is not enough to stay successful, happy, healthy and optimistic in today’s competitive and stressful world! And, with numerous research and reports supporting the need for SEL, educators across the country strongly agree that teaching these life skills positively impact students’ academic performance as well as enforce critical character traits for a child’s success in life. (Casel.org) But, do you wonder if your child is being taught these necessary social and emotional life skills to lead an optimistic, conscientious, confident and compassionate life? Is your child equipped to persevere, be authentic and successfully manage emotions and relationships? Well, if your family is like most; very busy with academics and sports that sometimes family talk of critical topics like respect, gratitude, integrity happiness self-acceptance, open minded and responsibility seem to fall through the cracks. Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop at American Martyrs Roman Catholic Church @ American Martyrs Church
Apr 30 @ 8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Want to learn to care for people who are grieving and reach out to others in a distinctively Christian way? On Saturday, April 30th, American Martyrs will host a Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. The half-day workshop is designed both to enhance participants’ caregiving skills and to help congregations explore ways to expand their caring ministry. Registration begins at 8:00 A.M. in St. Kateri Room and refreshments will be served.

One reason we’re so excited about helping other congregations learn about Stephen Ministry is that it is making a significant difference in the life of our own congregation. Since we began Stephen Ministry in 1992, a couple hundred laypeople have gone through 50 hours of training in order to provide quality one-to-one Christian care to hurting people. We currently have 42 congregation members serving as Stephen Ministers. If you think you might be interested in being a Stephen Minister, attending the workshop is a great way to learn more.

Speaker: Ms. Lorrie Frost
