SALAM NEIGHBOR + Filmmaker Q&A | Mira Costa High School @ Manhattan Beach Middle
Mar 28 @ 6:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Join The Lend a Hand Club at Mira Costa High School for a special screening of Salam Neighbor on March 28th at 6:30PM. The film will be followed by a discussion with Mira Costa parent and the film’s producer, Salam Darwaza and director/producer, Chris Temple, whose first film was the award-winning Living on One Dollar. Watch the film trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6SxPSZVD9o Film’s website: www.SalamNeighbor.org FILM SYNOPSIS Two Americans head to the edge of war, just seven miles from the Syrian border, to live among 85,000 uprooted refugees in Jordan’s Za’atari camp. As the first filmmakers allowed by the United Nations to register and set-up a tent inside a refugee camp, Zach and Chris plunge into the heart of the world’s most pressing humanitarian crisis. From meeting Um Ali, a woman struggling to overcome personal loss and cultural barriers, to the street smart, 10-year-old Raouf, whose trauma hides just beneath his ever present smile, Zach and Chris uncover inspiring stories of individuals rallying, against all odds, to rebuild their lives and those of their neighbors. FILM ENDORSEMENTS “Salam Neighbor is a beautifully crafted story that delivers a powerful message. It will leave you touched and inspired to take action. This film is a must-see.” – UN Refugee Agency “On a subject too often discussed in terms of numbers, Zach and Chris capture the human element of one of the greatest refugee crises of this generation.” – Congressman Ted Lieu “Chris and Zach are pushing the boundaries of how we tell stories and maximize social impact in the 21st century. They bring passion matched with professionalism and a humble respect for the people they’re seeking to help.” – Carolyn Miles, CEO, Save the Children TAKE ACTION Let’s create a more peaceful world by treating refugees, not as burdens, but as our global neighbors. This is a critical moment, with more refugees today than anytime in the last century. Inside the Mind of an Author: Interview with Michael Ellsberg @ Shade Hotel
Mar 28 @ 8:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Are you ready to meet face-to-face with the best and brightest business authors in the world? Then look no further than Inside the Mind of an Author, my new speaker series and meet-up in Los Angeles. On Monday, March 28, 2016, I invite you to spend the evening with bestselling author Michael Ellsberg (The Education of Millionaires and The Last Safe Investment) as he presents a blueprint for building “True Wealth,” which is the ability to generate not just financial value but also the experiences you cherish most—security, freedom, creative expression, and love.    Here’s what Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal, creator of the Thiel Fellowship, says about Michael and his book, The Education of Millionaires:  “Michael Ellsberg’s book is provocative and wise. Tuition is skyrocketing, job prospects are grim, and the race for bogus credentials has turned into a runaway status competition for positional goods. The Education of Millionaires offers a renegade path for anyone who wants vital skills without the crushing burden of student debt.” There are two ways to connect with Michael: the VIP experience which includes dinner with the author (limited to first come first serve), or regular admission to the event, both include a signed book. I look forward to seeing you on March 28 for Inside the Mind of an Author. – Alicia Dunams     FAQs What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? In regards to parking, the Shade Hotel has valet parking available at $16 per parked car. There is also self-parking in a city lot below the hotel, that features coin and credit-card operated meters ($1.25 per hour). There’s free parking across the street of the valet – grab it early.
