Join us for an amazing experience as we paddle out into the Santa Monica Bay in search of our ocean’s largest animals on a whale watching kayak tour with REI. Each November the Pacific grey whales begin their southern migration from the arctic waters of the Bering Sea passing through Southern California on their way to the warm water lagoons of Baja returning north around March. While we can’t guarantee an encounter with a whale we will most likely see other marine life such as seals sea lions pelicans and dolphins from a respectful distance in their natural environment! We’ll review basic paddle strokes and boat safety before paddling out into open water. Come experience your local waters in a new way! Previous paddling experience is highly recommended must be 12 years of age or older. The tour will involve paddling 4-5 miles possibly against wind and current. Please note this environment has rolling waves which can lead to motion sickness.
