ARISE SUMMIT – Shaping the Wave of Progress

ARISE:  Shaping the Wave of Progress A Reason to Include and Support Everyone. On behalf of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, we would like to invite you to the 2018 ARISE SUMMIT featuring the Lifeguard Division. The summit aims to educate and empower lifeguards to embrace their own and others’ diverse and unique contributions to the field of Lifeguarding. Lifeguards from throughout Southern California will leave the Summit empowered in their own individual abilities to effect change, armed with a few tangible ways to do so, and motivated to apply new skills and knowledge in their respective organizations; working together to shape the wave of progress. We strongly believe the dialogue generated by this event will support the growth of diversity within the field of Lifeguarding in the following two ways: 1) Empower all attendees to embrace their own and others unique contributions to the field of Lifeguarding 2) Amalgamate these unique attributes into a powerful force that will Shape the Wave of Progress for years to come. The summit will rely heavily upon the metaphor of a wave, as it beautifully encapsulates the essence of our mission. The content of the summit will honor the past, embrace the individuals in the room, provide an overview of the cutting edge research behind the science of peak performance, and directly address diversity and implicit bias. We will also highlight a panel of individuals who exemplify our theme. The day portion of the summit concludes with a workshop that tangibly integrates prior presentations, illuminates the value and role of every individual, and applies the messages of the day to the mission, vision, and values of every Lifeguard Agency in attendance. We hope you will all stay for the evening portion of the event. A dinner and “Trailblazer Award” presentation will honor  the individual who has embodied the missions of ARISE throughout her career.
